Gong xi!! Gong xi!! show me the ang pows~

hmmm...realised that i haven put up any new posts for the past week...
Not that i didnt have any interesting stuff to write about. In fact, i've have got tons of stuff to share..

Reunion dinner at my place went well. THANK GOD! *phew*
Dad was ultra nice to Tom, meeting him for the second time (i shant mention about the first meeting. THAT WAS A TOTAL DISASTER!!!)

I guess Dad has finally accepted Tom, judging from his body language. In fact my Dad offered him a can of Carlsberg beer!! This is very significant because
My Dad will only offer beer to people he likes.
Yupz, so that kinda sum up how my Dad feels about Tom now
*keeping my fingers crossed*

Dinner was the typical steamboat, with whatevernots throw into the cookpot to simmer. Not much conversation between Tom and my parents because of the language barrier.
My parents don't speak English and Tom's mandarin is...ermmm...u noe lah~

My Dad is so funny. He kept asking moi whether the steamboat is fine with Tom because, in his own words "Ang mohs only eat beef and potatoes!!". Moi was like "DAD~ they eat anything. Morever, Tom has been living in Singapore for the past 8years"
BTW, Tom's favourite local dish is the Qiu Lian tom yam u~mee in Bedok. Even the stall owner knows him. She'll go like "tom yam, u~ mee, no anchovies"

Dad kept offering Tom more beer and mommy was like "don't keep forcing him to drink"
"But all Ang mohs love to drink beer!!" Dad replied
I wondered where my Dad gets all his "so called theories" from..
like "ang mohs only eat beef and potatoes?" "ang mohs love to drink beer?"
must be too much TV shows, teach people the wrong stuff lah

After dinner, moi pulled out all the old school/family photos to show Tom. Found a really nice passport picture of mom and dad. They look so young back then
Some of my relatives said moi looked more like my dad, while others said i look more like my mom. Like duh~ obviously i'll look like either of them right? They are like my parents lor. The ones who make my existence in this world possible.

I had relatives who commented that i don't look like either one of them!! @_@

Tom asked moi to make a soft copy of all the photos, just in case something happens to them. I guess he's right because some of photos are starting to fade and turn yellow.. and these are photos that are like 30-45years old!!! *gasp*

He kept poking fun of the photos i took in my teens (That was like 10-15years ago). Truthfully, i don't blame him either. You know how it's like when you see photos of your adolescence years. You cringed and wondered "WTF was i thinking back then? those clothes? those make ups?"

My thoughts exactly~
(i can't wait to get my hands on Tom's adolescence photos! i bet i'll have a fit!! HAHA)

CNY Day 1 was fun eventhough moi had to report for my Zurich flight at 11.30pm. Relatives and "long time no see"cousins came over to our place for dinner.

Till death and never be apart?

Saw this interesting picture on ST 2days back. Something about some anthropologist digging up two human bones in embrace, the first ever found in history.
This pictures does says alot about the love the couple have for each other.

"till death and never be apart"

It will be interesting to find out how they died (cause of death?)... Poisoned themselves like Romeo & Juliet? or natural causes? which seems unlikely...

Another article that caught moi's eyes was about mixed marriage in Singapore.
i'm kinda surprise that only 337 chinese females married caucasians in 2005.
Kinda expected a higher number, judging from the number of mixed couples i see on the streets.

When Tom & moi first got together, alot of pple were very skeptical and judgmental about our relationship.

One very very obvious reason was him being a gwei lo (cantonese term for Caucasian people) and moi, a chinese. The term "Oh, you're a SPG!!!" will inevitably pops up.
SPG a.k.a Sarong Party Girl - a derogatory Singaporean term describing a local Asian woman who exclusively dates and prefers Caucasian men

It makes me really really hopping mad when that happens.

Moi remembered bumping into an old friend while out shopping
Moi: Hey, long time no see!! how are you??
Old fren: I'm good! how are you?
then blah blah blah...after awhile,
Old fren: hey, is that your boyfriend photo that i saw in friendster?
moi: yupz, that's Tom!
Old fren: Oh god, Jasmine, you changed liao...you're different now...
(The last time i checked, i'm still the same ol' me.. Nothing changes)
moi (confused) : I'm different?
Old fren: Ya, you're now date Ang mohs..You're like those SPGs....

I never talk to that Old fren anymore~

Why are pple so damn sterotype?
Excuse moi, just because my boyfriend is an Ang moh does not label me as a SPG!
So stop FXXXing called me that!!

Isnt it interesting that in this 21st century, alot of people (especially the older generations) still can't accept mixed couples? One of them being my dad for example..

My other colleague who date an Australian guy related how she and her boyfriend were spat at in Chinatown by this chinese old man who shouted in her face "You are a disgrace to us chinese!!!!"

*omg*

I can understand how she felt at that time. Although i didnt have the misfortune of being spat at by some idiotic morons, i can assure you moi have my fair share of "chinese-with-angmohs" haters.
people give you a dirty look wherever you go, they scrutinize the clothes you wear, the way you walk and talk....JUST because you are holding hands with a white guy.
Back then, it used to bother me alot. Now im kinda bo chap about it..In fact, when i see some moron openly staring at us, moi will smile at him and give a wave that's gonna make the Queen proud..after which, he will looked away, with embarrassment
The things i do to keep myself amused..haha

Tom and moi have been together for a year plus liao. Most of my friends and family have changed their views on our relationship. Except My Dad.
(No, he's not the old man who spat and screamed "you're a disgrace to us chinese) HAHA

My Dad is the strict traditional conservative one who exclaimed "why can't you find a decent chinese boyfriend?!?!" when my mommy first told him about Tom.
When i explained that humans are the same everywhere in the world and colour is just but skin deep, he merely grunted and walked away..
Sighz, it's so difficult to talk to him sometimes~

Tom will be coming over for CNY reunion dinner this year and i sure hope Dad will be civilise to him when he's here.

Ermm, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY everyone!!!

Amsterdam~

Amsterdam is famous for its free-spirited liberalism, diversity and tolerance. It is the original City of Sin, a party paradise with sex, drugs and rock 'n roll all come together.
Best part? it's all legal!

It was freezing cold in Amsterdam!

Birdies taking a dip in the canal
Headed down to our favourite homemade fries: 2Euros for a small size of hot crispy chunky fries that comes with a range of sauses to choose from.Yupz! it was really REALLY good!Found a burger shop: slot in the money, open the compartment door and ready to eat. Talk about ready made burgers!

This guy in blue got angry when moi tried to take a photo of him. He was like waving his fakie weapon (like DUH~) and making angry gestures with his other hand.
I took a quick shot and ran for safety!! He's so not friendly~
*rolled my eyes*

Interesting fact:
See the beams containing hooks at the top of these houses? They are used, using pulleys, to hoist furniture up to the upper levels of the house through the windows. Reason being that these houses were built so narrow and have extremely narrow and steep staircases that made it near impossible to get furniture up from the ground floor.
One of the most original items to take back home from Amsterdam are clogs, Holland's traditional wooden shoes. Nowadays, the majority of the clogs in Amsterdam's city center are generally made for tourist purposes and come in all sizes and colours.
im not sure if anyone wears them anymore
(other than me!! when i posted for the shots!! HAHA)

Girl in a giant wooden clog!
As you may or may not know, marijuana and hashish are "legal" substances in Holland and have been so for several years. It is sold in licensed shops called coffee shops. There are approximately 500 or so in Amsterdam and many others throughout the country. Coffeeshops are allowed to sell small amounts of cannabis and are strictly regulated and taxed.
They:
1.must not sell to anyone under the age of 18,
2.must not sell more than 5g to any customer
3.must not hold more than 500g on the premises
.

NOTE: hard drugs are strictly forbidden.
Visit to Anne Frank house~
I must admit that i went along with my colleagues with absolutely no clue who was Anne Frank.
how little i know.

from wikipedia:
Anne Frank was one of the many victims of the Jewish persecution during World War II.
The whole family, together with four friends went into hiding in July 1942 in hidden rooms in her father Otto Frank's office building during the German occupation of the Netherlands. Anne Frank kept a diary while she was in hiding. She wrote about everyday life hiding, the isolation and the constant fear of being discovered. After two years in hiding, the group was betrayed, captured and transported to concentration camps. Seven months after her arrest, Anne died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp within days of her sister, Margot Frank. She was just sixteen when she died. Otto, the father, was the only survivor of the group.
After the war, it was estimated that of the 110,000 Jews deported from the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation, only 5,000 of them survived.

Anne Frank's diary was first published in the Netherland in 1047 and has been translated into more than 60 languages since then.
Time Magazine published a special edition titled
TIME 100: Heroes & Icons of the 20th century. This is a list of the 20th century's hundred most influential politicians, artists, innovators, scientists and icons. Anne Frank was selected as one of the 'Heroes & Icons'

Long quene outside Anne Frank house: You can walk through the house where the Frank family was in hiding during WW2.
Couldnt take pictures inside the House so just bought a couple of postcards.
Message left in the guestbook~

Statue of Anne Frank outside the church

The visit left me with tears in my eyes. I am ashamed to admit that I know absolutely nothing about the World War II, the Holocaust and suffering that many people endured when the war broke out. Yupz, we do learned bits and pieces of it during my sec school history classes and it's mainly on the war that's happening in Asia.
History is a subject that i found really boring back then. I managed to pass by memorising all relevant information and dates. It doesnt fascinate moi, unlike A maths or pure chemisty which allows you to think and do hand~on experiments.

But now when im 28 and wiser (i hope), i find the past intriguing. Visiting Anne Frank house makes moi realise that there's so much things that i don't know. So ignorant~
I probably score a big fat zero for General knowlege.

Alrite, think i say too much on the Anne Frank House.
Moving on ~

Amsterdam is also famous for its red light district. Prostitution is legal in the Netherlands at specific places. The red-light district is located in the center of the city along major canals and is clearly marked on maps.
Girls of all shapes, sizes and origins all dressed right out of the Victoria's Secret pose behind large glass doors and solicit from passersby (window glass girls) .
If interested in soliciting a girl's service, walk up to her window/door. She will open the door allowing conversation. Ask the price and if a deal is made she will open the door wider to let you in. Then she will draw the curtains indicating that she is "on the job."

An important note on the Red Light District: Taking pictures is frowned upon by the police, not to mention the girls. However, moi manage to take a couple of precious photos to show my readers!!
the risk moi takes for you all!!
One of the many 'live" show in Red light District
Sex shops proudly showing the latest vibrators and other sex items in a display window as if they were the new spring collection at Harrod's
One of my colleague wanted to take a picture of this huge marble penis fountain that she claimed was located at the red-light District.
We walked around, in the freezing cold, asked directions from locals and POLICEMEN!! who directed us to walk straight, turn right and blah blah . After looking for an hour, we failed to find the stoopid fountain. Cold and exhausted, we were seriously starting to doubt the existence of this marble penis fountain. Finally, we asked this old couple who told us that the fourtain was torn down due to the renovation works of the canel!!!!!

@-@"'

Our colleagues showed us a postcard to prove that it really existed!!

Casa Rosa is distinguishable by the marble penis fountain in front of the door
Alrite Dora, we forgive you for making us walked an hour in the bloody cold looking for something that doesnt exist anymore

We passed by this interesting fixture on our way back to the hotel.
Make a guess what it's for?
Yesh!! its a public urinal for men!! That's my colleague posting a picture for me.
He READ: DID NOT use it.
But we did saw a couple of men using it *shy*
All in all, other then the bitter cold winter, it had been a really interesting trip!
and nope, moi didnt go into any "live sex" shows, visit the coffee shops nor enter any sex shops if that's what you all are thinking about
*stick my tongue out*

Jasmine's latte~

Presenting "Jasmine's latte"Wahhhhh~ ultra cool leh
Thanks to Shir Lee who taught moi how to make a nice Cafe Latte..
It's pretty easy actually! Just foam up the milk, pour a shot of espresso slowly into the hot milk (It helps if you have steady hands) and Presto!
The perfect Cafe Latte...

Headed to the hotel gym when i was in Seoul! I've made good my 2007 resolution to stay healthy and eat healthier food so far! Eat healthier food means munching on carrot sticks and celery when i have cravings for snacks. Been also making a point to do a daily routine of toning up exercise for the past week. Havent see any results so far but hey! miracles don't happen overnight right?

It's so easy to gain weight! but losing that few kgs takes REAL EFFORT AND DETERMINATION
(SHIT, just succumb to temptation and munched on a packet of potato chips while writing this blog!)
#X$#!%&?#
After gym, moi walked over (in the freezing cold: -7 degrees) for real Korean food.
SPICY BEEF SOUP~
As usual, i ate everything up -_-

It's super duper nice to eat hot and spicy soup during winter.
I dunno why actually, maybe it's the sight of the steaming smoke rising from my spicy beef soup? or maybe cos my fingers and nose are numb from the unmerciless cold wind?

The feeling of eating hot food when it's minus zero degree outside is PRICELESS.

How i wish Singapore has four seasons! Imagine the whole of Singapore covered in fluffy white snow...isnt it nice?
When passengers asked what's the weather like in Singapore, moi always tell them: "it's either hot and getting hotter or wet and getting wetter"
I despise the weather in Singapore...hmm, mabbe despise is too strong a word, Alrite..i don't like the weather in Singapore...its too hot, too stuffy and too humid!
And you cant dress up! Imagine wearing a leather jacket under the scorching 35degrees heat? You either faint from heat stroke or be labelled "crazy leh! in this heat? leather jacket?!?!" by passerbys.

Four seasons are so nice~
But with the destruction of the enviroment, "most likely" due to humans, maybe some day, there wouldnt even be four seasons in the world

Depressing huh?

Im losing my train of thots today...hmm, what started with jasmine's latte ended with the destruction of the enviroment

Sighz, the Queen is in a weird mood again~

My Maternal Instincts's kicking in!!!

Geez, i almost wanted to kidnap this adorable baby, Alex onboard my Shanghai flight. Look how cute and cubby he is!! Check out his ultra long eyelashes as well!!!

All the Crew were "gaa gaa" over him.... Oh man!! The Queen melted when he looked at moi with his big innocent brown eyes
(Ermm, did i mentioned he almost poked my eyes out when i gave him a peck on his chubby cheek?)
Sighz, i think my maternal instincts's kicking in~
Im starting to love babies... ALL babies!! They are just so adorable~

i wanna have a BABY!!!!!!

*Tom's stunned look*
@-@

People, people....Please don't start saying about "Oh, your biological clock is ticking and blah blah", which i think is so totally IRRELEVANT".. it's my maternal instincts!!
And everytime when moi and Tom are out shopping, i'll yelled "Baby in a stroller!!!"
Poor Tom...Sighz, the things he have to endure

Psst...moi have even think of names for my babies...keke
Nothing fancy like kjhkjshrirh or aijdihhskjhj... I mean how am i gonna buy those cute lil clothes or those name's keychain in souvenior shops?

kjhkjshrirh : Mommy Mommy. how come i couldn't find my name on these keychains?
moi : cos your name is unique, my sweetie pie
kjhkjshrirh : Yesh! its so unique that all my teachers and classmates cant even pronounce it properly
*sweat drop*

The last thing you want is to have teachers or anyone having a hard time pronouncing your children name.. "ermm, Kjh~KJS~Hrirh??"

A couple of months ago, i had two lovely girls on my flight.

Moi : So what's their name? i asked the bleaming mommy
Bleaming mommy : Oh..this is China, and that's India
moi must have looked confused and she explained further "Well, we thought these are very unique names"

I was like thinking "But these are names of countries"
Oh well, so much for unique names..
Moi even managed to buy this book which was on sale at Carrefour
(feel free to borrow from moi when you wanna think of a name for your child)
Hastily flipped to "Jasmine"Geez, FRAGRANT and SWEET!!!! i sound like some kind of flower..
WAIT!! It REALLY is a flower!!!

I can't make up my mind which name to use for my future baby girl..
i love the following names==> Natasha, Gisele, Cheyenne, Charlize
Can u imagine my future baby girl will be called
"Cheyenne Charlize Kerxin "
Hmm...isnt it abit too much? =P

I really wanna have a baby!!!! @-@

And it's just a turn on to see big manly newbie Daddy carrying their newborn in their macho arms, the way their eyes gaze at their lil ones like it's the most precious thing they had ever hold (other than mommy of cos!), their touch so soft and gentle, the proud smiles on their faces

The big O' strong guy being reduce to a gentle bear when they are with their newborns and the lil one have his parent's wrapped around his lil fingers...
Awwww...Isnt that so enduring~
